STEP 7: WORK THAT SALAD MAGIC
Make your salads a cornucopia of taste! The more colour, texture and taste a salad has, the more nutritious it is, the more likely you are to want to eat it and eat it more often rather than resorting to takeaways/fast foods etc.
Don’t limit your self to plain lettuce, tomatoes and carrot - be creative & go wild; the ingredients are limited only by your imagination! If you are short of time, use a supermarket salad mix as a base (ditch the calorie filled dressing) but add your own creative mixture of delicious extras.
What can you think of that will add a zing of taste to every bite? Here are some suggestions to get you going:
Blueberries & chopped strawberries
Fresh mango,
Cubes of freshly chopped apple,
A handful of chopped nuts and seeds,
A scattering of raisins.
Cubes of cheese, dots of goats cheese, low fat feta cheese
Cold or warm roast vegetables,
Freshly grilled vegetables,
A small amounts of chopped olives, semi sun dried tomatoes,
A handful of pickled or fermented vegetables
Legumes such as chickpeas, kidney beans, borlotti beans
Fresh herbs such as parsley, coriander, mint or torn fresh basil, chopped chilli
Your Prime for Success step for this weekis to add 5 of the above items, or others you can think of, to spice up your salads this week!
Added challenge: serve it to your family and see who notices the difference in taste!
Not only does drawing from as wide a variety of nutritional sources make meals more interesting, more delicious and nutritious, it doesn’t need to be time-consuming either. With the right food preparation you could add most of these tasty morsels in just a few minutes.
And remember – the more often you give your body that right information … the more often it will build muscle, burn fat and work towards achieving that youthful body and boundless energy you long for!
