Priming for Success: Step 8 - We are what we drink!

Welcome to the eighth step that will prime you to set out on your own exciting and successful health and fitness journey.

 STEP 8: WE ARE WHAT WE DRINK!

Just like your food, what you drink also programmes your body for success or failure.   If you want to achieve that better health, that youthful body and energy, then its time to swap those soft-drinks, fruit juices, sweet teas and other calorie-laden beverages for something ‘lighter’.  For most of us, this strategy alone can provide remarkable physical changes. 

Interestingly, apart from ensuring better hydration, better digestion and assimilation of nutrients, some research suggests that drinking more water can enhance fat loss.  This is because drinking water increases the energy our body releases as heat.

Your Prime for Success step for this week is to find three new low calorie or calorie free drinks to incorporate in your daily routine

Here are some suggestions:

  • Herbal tea – there are too many flavours to list!

  • Green tea – actively assists in weight loss

  • Water flavoured with a slice of lemon, sliced strawberries, mint – keep a jug in the fridge or on your desk at work

  • Black tea without sugar

  • Black coffee with sugar

  • Water flavoured with a splash of lite cordial

  • Coconut water

  • If you are wedded to your milky coffee, try shifting from full fat milk to skim as an initial step

Note: eat your fruit and veggies – don’t juice them. It’s too easy to consume excess calories by drinking fruit and vegetable juices.
