Welcome to the fourth step that will prime you to set out on your own exciting and successful health and fitness journey.
STEP 4: TOOLS OF THE TRADE
In your previous challenges, you have started to create the perfect environment in which to create those meals which are going to fuel your transformation, bring back energy and vitality to your life and prepare you for your own health & fitness journey. Another step towards being able to prepare a variety of quick, tasty and nutritious meals are making sure you have what we call the ‘tools of the trade’.
For some of you this will be a super easy task because you will already have many of these. For others this might require a shopping expedition. That said it doesn’t need to be expensive – most of these items can be found in a supermarket, Kmart or discount warehouse type stores. If you can’t afford the more expensive items, focus on what you can afford and go with those. Even just a few of these will make the world of difference to your meal preparation!
Your Prime for Success step for this week is to tick off as many of the following items you can and if possible purchase the others to make sure you have the ‘tools of the trade’ which will enable you to create delicious and nutritious meals quickly and easily.:
Containers for food you have prepared and store in the fridge. Plastic and glass are both good. Make sure the lids seal well
Set of sharp knives & chopping board. A decent set will make food preparation a breeze.
Metric cup measures. Invaluable for estimating food portion sizes. Use the metric cups and start to be aware of the volume of your carbohydrates
Bench space. Clear away the books, unused appliances, pot plants and junk that just seems to accumulate. Give yourself as much space as possible.
The Magic Bullet. Invaluable for fast, efficient blending
Slow Cooker. One of the most useful appliances for creating delicious meals with almost no preparation time. Just put all the ingredients into the cooker and turn it on. By dinner time you will have an amazing meal ready to go.
Wok, pots, pans & steamer. Whether it’s the non-stick kind or stainless steel, if you choose heavy-based, good-quality cookware, you’ll find the amount of oil or fat needed for cooking can be kept to a bare minimum. A pot set with a steamer insert or attachment would also be a valuable investment.
Hooded BBQ with roasting tray. The type of BBQ locks in the moisture and flavour as well as accelerating the cooking process. It will cook the perfect steak, roast vegetable, steam fish and do fat free fries all at once!
Well done! You have just taken another important step to prime yourself for a successful transformation!
I look forward to catching up with you soon.
