Priming for Success Step 10 - The Power of Record Keeping

Welcome to the tenth step that will prime you to set out on your own exciting and successful health and fitness journey.

 

STEP 10:  THE POWER OF RECORD KEEPING

So you want to change - you want that energy, that youthful strength and vitality.  But all the will and good intentions in the world can be for nothing unless you define and create accountability.  We talked about goal-setting in the initial email - how goal setting is crucial to success. It also helps to break down your large end goal into a serious of smaller sub-goals right down to what needs to be achieved every single day.

 One way to assist this is keep a meal or food diary. Writing down everything that you eat and drink can help you identify good and bad habits, what is working well and what is not working so well, where you can build on good patterns and what needs changing.

Your Prime for Success step for this week is to keep a food diary for a week.

  • Be honest with yourself

  • Look for patterns of eating – what are good ones that will get you to your goal and which are less good that will derail your chances of success.

  •  Example of a meal that will take you towards your goal: roast beef salad with herbal tea

  •  Example of a meal that will take you away from your goal: cake and whole milk coffee with sugar

  •  Review at the end of the week – how helpful was this as an exercise?

A diary can be kept in or on anything – a notebook, iPhone, computer. Use whatever is easiest as you are then more likely to keep it up.
